AN ELDERLY woman was conned out of £6,000 after being targeted by conman posing as police officers.
Hampshire police say the woman, in her 80s, gave out bank details over the phone after receiving a call from the scammers.
They claimed to be investigating fraudulent transactions from her account and asked her to withdraw the money, which she should give to a courier.
The woman, from Test Valley, handed over £6,000, before realising it was a con when the fraudsters tried to get even more money from her.
Hampshire Constabulary is asking people to warn their elderly relatives about phone calls from fake police officers.
They are also concerned there may be other victims who are unaware they have been conned.
A spokesperson said: "We would never request anyone to withdraw or hand over money.
"If anyone receives such a call, they should contact us on 101 from a different telephone."
In August, Hampshire Constabulary issued a similar warning to people in the Lymington area.
That warning came after a pensioner, also in their 80s, parted with £8,000.
