In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this was the main cemetery for the town of Southampton.
As the town grew and became a city, other provisions were made as the cemetery filled to capacity.
There are at least 44 graves and memorials here, belonging to people who were on Titanic the night in sank.
The memorial to all the victims was originally erected here, but was later moved to the bombed out remnants of Holyrood Church in Southampton High Street, which was made as a memorial to all merchant sailors.
