REVIEW: Michael Ball and Alfie Boe 'Together', BIC Bournemouth
Michael Ball and Alfie Boe on stage 'Together' proved a magical pairing that will most probably go down in musical history.
Returning for a second tour date at the packed BIC Windsor Hall the excitement and euphoria in the crowd was more than matched by the happiness and camaraderie on stage from these two great friends.
There was musical variety, from show tunes to film, Elvis Presley to Bond, Sinatra to Bassey, in a show that offered something for everyone.
The blend of Ball's bewitching baritone with the mighty tenor of Boe was often breath-taking in a show that saw them shine both together and in individual performances.
Inevitably the highlights were songs from musical theatre: Music of the Night from Phantom of the Opera, Tell Me it's Not True from Blood Brothers and , of course, a spine tingling selection of Les Miserables songs .
But there was a mix of classic and contemporary songs including A Thousand Years from Twilight and Adele's Skyfall.
Among the stand out moments was an incredible performance by Boe of The Who's Love Reign O'er me from Quadrophenia which was followed by Ball's stunning Love Changes Everything.
There was much laughing and joking throughout with Ball teasing Liverpool football fan Boe about his club's defeat at the hands of AFC Bournemouth the day before.
Apparently Ball had organised tickets for Boe to watch the game which saw under dogs Bournemouth turn the game around for a 4-3 win. Game for a laugh Boe took a Cherries scarf from a fan in the crowd and waved it in the air, however, as they returned for the roof-raising encore 'You'll Never Walk Alone'.
A sensational show!
