TRIBUTES have been laid at the scene of a crash which resulted in the death of a Southampton cyclist.
It comes after a 32-year-old man, named locally as Richard Gardner, was involved in a collision with a car while cycling on Brownhill Way yesterday morning.
Since then, dozens of tributes have been laid at the scene,
They include flowers, many of which refer to him as 'Richie G', as well as a signed Saints shirt with the name 'Gardner' and '85' on the back.
One tribute read: "I've never met such a loving caring person as you.
"I am heartbroken you have gone and you will never be forgotten."
Another said: "You were a brother from another mother.
"We had some giggles and it was a pleasure to have known you.
"Forever in our thoughts."
Officers were called just after midnight to Brownhill Way, Lordshill, following a collision involving the cyclist and a Ford Focus.
The 32-year-old male cyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital.
Police confirmed he had died late last night.
Police say no-one else suffered any injuries in the crash.
Officers arrested a 26-year-old man from the New Forest in connection with the incident.
He has been released without charge but remains under investigation.
Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the collision and would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time.
PC Lucy Hawkins said: “We know that this happened in the early hours of this morning, but if you were out and about in the area you may have seen something that could help our investigation.
“Did you see what happened or did you see either a male cyclist or a black Ford Focus travelling around that area of Southampton?”
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting 44170494844, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
