DETECTIVES are tonight still trying to identify the man who was found dead on a footpath near a Hampshire railway station.
As reported earlier today, officers shut Millbrook station to members of the public and cordoned off the footbridge leading to it crossing Millbrook Road West.
Hampshire police have told the Daily Echo the body is that of a man but his identity remains unknown. It was found this morning by a member of the public along a footapth adjacent to the railway lines and station.
Officers from Hampshire's major investigation team say they are currently treating the death as 'unexplained' while initial inquiries are carried out.
Specialist scens of crime officers were on the scene this afternoon, carrying out a full forensic examination.
There werepolice officers from Hampshire Constabulary and British Transport Police at the railway station as well as an ambulance initially.
The entire footbridge was closed and officers were also standing guard on the bridge crossing the train tracks.
Detectives are appealing for anyone who has used the footpath within the past 24 hours to contact them via 101.
