HE may be terrified of heights – but that’s not going to stop a brave Hampshire paramedic from making the descent of his life.
Jules Cavalier, 41, is determined to overcome his fear when he abseils from one of the south’s tallest buildings to help others in need.
The South Central Ambulance Service worker will descend the 170m Spinnaker Tower, in Portsmouth, in aid of the Stroke Association.
He was inspired by his mother who lost her sight suddenly. He said his family cared for her for two years until she passed away and added: “The strength she had is what has made me do this. It’s to make her proud.
“I have chosen the Stroke Association because they do research.
“I have worked with stroke patients since I was 17, and we have got to the point now where we can reach them within 20 minutes, get them to a unit within an hour, and actually reverse their symptoms.”
The abseil, at 9.30am on March 15, will see Mr Cavalier ‘walk the plank’ out of a top floor window to begin his descent. He is expecting his father and about 25 others to be waiting for him at the bottom.
