A WAR memorial for Pompey players killed in conflict has been smeared with Saints graffiti.
The memorial at the entrance of Pompey's Fratton Park stadium was defaced with red graffiti overnight.
The vandals brandished “Southampton boyz” and part of an expletive-laden chant on the memorial.
The act has been slammed by supporters of both rival clubs on the social media website Twitter.
One user wrote: “No respect for our war dead - hope they get caught.”
Another wrote: “Animalistic behaviour from an ignorant and disgraceful individual.”
The memorial features a plaque in memory of former Pompey player Cpt Edward Bell, who died serving with the 17th Battalion Middlesex Regiment.
