THREE people were injured in a car crash on a city bridge this morning.
The accident happened on Cobden Bridge and involved a taxi, a van and a car. Fire crews from St Mary's and Hightown Fire Station rushed to the scene to cut out a woman and child in the car and a female from the taxi.
South Central Ambulance Service said that it deployed two ambulance crews and two rapid response vehicles. A passing patients' transport vehicle also pulled over.
A spokeswoman said: “Three patients were taken to Southampton General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.”
Anil Sood who owns SOS Hardware is in Bitterne Park Triangle, close to where the incident happened described the scene.
He saw a taxi that had suffered what he described as 'massive' damage to the rear.
He said: “The police would not let anyone walk that way there was only one lane operating both ways. I went half way up the bridge but then came back.”
“I saw four fire engines on the bridge it was chaos at one point the firemen were so blocked in and cars could not go left or right.”
“For four engines to have been there it must have been serious.”
The accident happened at 9.15am and the bridge was fully reopened by 11.30am.
