UKIP has selected a former business lawyer from Southampton as its parliamentary candidate for Fareham.
Don Jerrard, co-founder of the Justice & Anti-Corruption Party, said it was an “honour and a big challenge” to be chosen to stand for the election.
Mr Jerrard also stood as an independent candidate in the Police and Crime Commissioner election for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight in 2012.
He said: “It is a great honour and a big challenge to have the chance to get the best possible result for Fareham in next year's elections.
“I have always been opposed to the European Union and know that controlling immigration is the only way to deal with the problems of overdevelopment.
“I am looking forward to meeting local residents over the coming months as UKIP tries to get back control of our own destiny.”
