A WOMAN and a child have been rescued from a blaze at a block of flats.
They were rescued from a top floor flat and led to safety by firefighters in an internal stairwell at the block in Paynes Road, Southampton.
A total of 24 firefighters from Hightown, St Mary's and Redbridge fire stations were sent to the blaze, which forced the evacuation of the whole block.
They used four sets of breathing apparatus, two hose reels and positive pressure ventilation to tackle the fire.
A woman and a child were led to safety by firefighters.
The fire took hold at around 11.52pm yesterday and was out an hour later.
The cause of the blaze is doubtful and an investigation is underway.
