Buzz's Diner in Southampton city centre closes due to financial problems

Owners of Buzz’s Diner in Southampton, which offered a variety of supersize food challenges, said the closure was as a result of financial problems including coping with being flooded twice.

It was opened in January 2013 by Saints legend Matthew Le Tissier under the name of Soup A Spud.

But it later had a rebrand which saw its name change to Buzz’s Diner in 2014 and its menu was revamped to serve burgers instead of soups and jacket potatoes.

However despite burger challenges like ‘Buzz’s Big One’ hitting the headlines and receiving nationwide press coverage, the restaurant could not keep its head above water financially.

Owner Mark Thurston-Jones explained the closure was due to financial prob lems and his ill health.

Mark said: “Everyone is really disappointed but there is only a limited pot of money. There was a catalogue of problems, we got flooded twice and broken into at the beginning of January.

“I would like to say thank you to all the regular customers that have come in. Their support has been really important, and that goes to the staff too who have stuck with us throughout the problems.”
