HAMPSHIRE apprentices have put their joinery skills to the test against other young construction talent in the region.
Christopher Kemp, 22, from Botley, and Reece Arnald, 21, from Bitterne, who study Bench Joinery apprenticeships in Wood Occupations at Eastleigh College, competed in the SkillBuild regional qualifiers in Chichester.
The third year students were nominated to take part by their tutors for demonstrating outstanding joinery skills and competency.
Christopher won second place taking him through to the national final later in the year.
SkillBuild is part of the wider WorldSkills competition and sees individuals from different trades compete for medals in their category.
Christopher said he was "surprised" at his second place, but said it would look great on his CV and help his career.
Eastleigh College offers Wood Occupations Apprenticeships in Site Carpentry and Bench Joinery.
