A HAMPSHIRE boat seller hanged himself after suffering from alcohol problems and depression, an inquest heard.
Jonathan Walker from Hamble was found dead on June 29 at a garage unit in Grange Farm in Netley.
Winchester Coronor’s Court heard how the 48-year-old from Astral Gardens had been suffering from alcohol problems.
The inquest read a report from GP Dr Ali Shahsavanpoure, which said that Mr Walker had suffered from alcohol dependency since 1998, and had a history of depression and was on anti-depressants.
In September last year Mr Walker was attending sessions and managed to reduce his alcohol intake.
However he saw Dr Shahsavanpour in December and admitted his alcohol problems were 'out of control' and he returned to The Bridge in Eastleigh and was later then put on a home detox programme in March.
The hearing heard from Mr Walker’s partner Julie Katon who received an email from Mr Walker, which indicated his intentions, but by the time she arrived at the boatyard unit in Netley he was dead.
Ms Katon, said: “He had done well, he had a couple of good months, I thought we were finally getting there.”
Assistant Coroner Sarah Whitby recorded a verdict of suicide.
Ms Katon paid tribute to Mr Walker, she said: “He loved life and he was passionate and lived life, another family member who did not want to be named, said: “He was the best stepdad you can ever have.”
