THIS is a sneak preview of the latest cinema set to open in Hampshire.
The new Cineworld in Whiteley, which has nine screens, is part of a multi-million pound leisure extension to the Whiteley Shopping Centre, set to open its doors in a fortnight.
It is adjacent to and part of the shopping centre, which opened in May 2013.
The £18million leisure extension when it opens on November 19 is expected to create 200 jobs – including 35 at the cinema on its first floor. Below the cinema is six restaurants.
Opening, originally expected in the summer, was delayed after building work was put back by bad weather.
The cinema will launch on November 19, with a special one-off midnight screening of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 in the early hours of the morning on November 19, while the restaurants will follow suit later that day.
Cinema bosses say the state-of-the-art screens will deliver crystal-clear images and a powerful digital sound system.
Neil Carter, shopping centre manager, said the complex would bring the total restaurants on site to 14.
He said: “It’s a fantastic addition for us – it makes us more of a rounded destination. It will attract more customers in general but it will attract perhaps a different customer." that hasn’t been to us before because it hasn’t had that leisure element."
“We have got 3,000 homes coming. This is about creating a town centre for an enlarged Whiteley.”
