INVESTIGATIONS are continuing after a body was found in Southampton.
Emergency services were called in the early hours of Saturday morning after a body was found in St Mary's.
Officers were guarding a block of garages in Wolverton Road where a fire is believed to have started.
Police at the scene refused to confirm the nature of the incident but it is understood a body was discovered after a fire broke out.
Forensic officers were at the scene and four garages close to the junction of Derby Road have been taped off.
Jagtar Singh, 46, who lives in Derby Road said: "I was going to bed after midnight and saw a fire engine in Derby Road.
"It had its lights flashing but there was no sound. I was wondering what happened."
One garage has its green door broken down and there is a smell of smoke in the air.
A team from Southampton City Council then arrived to board up the garages.
Crews from St Mary's and Redbridge fire stations were called at 1.46am but were unable to disclose the nature of the operation.
A Hampshire Police spokeswoman said: "Police were called at 1.45am this morning to a report of a fire coming from a garage on Wolverton Road.
"We attended alongside our colleagues from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.
"The body of a 42-year-old man was found inside the garage.
"The investigation is ongoing however at this time the death is not being treated as suspicious."
A woman from Wolverton Road, who did not want to be identified, said: "My sister awoke at 5am and saw the fire brigade, police and forensics there with white masks and suits taking pictures.
"It looked like something serious happening."
A team from Southampton City Council have arrived to board up the garages.
