FROM festivals to awards recognising some of the most deserving people in Hampshire, the county is set to mark St George's Day in style today.

The third annual St George's Day festival will take place in Southampton later today, at the 1865 in Brunswick Square.

There will be a host of free activities at the festival, which is hosted by Saints legend Lawrie McMenemy and will also see the premiere of a series of short films about people from Southampton.

The films have been put together by students at Southampton Solent University as part of the national #WeAreAllEngland campaign.

They feature interviews with well-known Southampton families and their connections with the city, from Saints legend Francis Benali to the Spacagna family and the Diaper family's connection with Sholing FC.

The winners of the Daily Echo and Southampton St George's Day Festival Community Awards will be announced at the event with a host of people up for five awards.

They include the Biggest Improvement to Quality of Life in the Southampton City Region, Putting the Southampton City Region on the Map, and Local Unsung Hero.

Other events are also taking place across the county.

From 12.30pm to 5.30pm the Golden Goa association of Southampton are hosting a dancing event with a raffle at St Boniface Church Hall in Shirley, while morris dancers will also be performing at Lock's Heath Centre in Centre Way at 11.45am and 2pm at Peter Green's in School Lane, Chandler's Ford.

A St George's Day parade will start at 2pm at Romsey Abbey and go down Portersbridge Street, turn onto Latimer Street and finally arrive on The Hundred and head back towards the Abbey
