A WOMAN has died after a horrific lorry crash in Southampton.
Police are appealing for witnesses after the 61-year-old was hit on Bridge Road in Woolston at about 12.20pm.
She was rushed to Southampton General Hospital but it has been confirmed that she died of her injuries.
The road was closed between Radstock Road and Victoria Road for more than four hours.
Shocked witnesses told the Daily Echo that medics worked to resuscitate the woman before she was taken to hospital in an ambulance.
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: "The road is currently closed and we would urge motorists to avoid the area if at all possible.
"We hope to reopen the road within the next couple of hours and we would like to thank motorists for their patience as we deal with this incident.
"We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision this afternoon.
"Anyone with information is asked to call the Serious Collision Investigations Unit on 101, quoting Operation Coledale, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
