RYAN Bertrand and Fraser Forster have both made the cut for Roy Hodgson's finalised 23-man England squad for Euro 2016. 

The Saints duo both played in Friday's friendly 2-1 victory over Australia and have now been confirmed in the reduced 23-man squad that will travel to France next month for the tournament finals. 

It will be Bertrand's first major international competition with the Three Lions, while Forster will enjoy his second trip, having been among the squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. 

Both of them, though, will make their first trips to the European Championships.

Forster will, as he did in South America two years ago, act as a reserve goalkeeper behind first choice Joe Hart, along with Burnley's Tom Heaton. 

Bertrand, the left back, will likely stand more of a chance of getting some game time than his St Mary's team-mate.

The 26-year-old will go head-to-head with Tottenham's Danny Rose for a starting role in Hodgson's side.

Bertrand was forced to miss training recently after sustaining a knock, throwing an element of doubt over whether or not he might be fit enough to make the reduced squad. 

However, the former Chelsea man has seemingly shaken off the problem and takes his place in Hodgson's squad. 

There wasn't room for either Danny Drinkwater and Andros Townsend in the final squad, along with the injured Fabian Delph.

But Marcus Rashford, the teenage Manchester United striker, and Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge have both been selected. 

Sturridge missed both preparation friendlies, the only player to do that, with yet another injury problem, but proved his fitness in Monday's training session just hours before the final squad was announced. 

Rashford impressed the England coaching staff by following up impressive training displays with a dream international debut, netting 138 seconds into the 2-1 win against Australia on Friday.

England now prepare to play their final Euros warm up game against Jose Fonte and Cedric Soares' Portugal on Thursday evening at Wembley.

Hodgson's side will open their campaign against Russia on Saturday 11th June, before then also taking on Wales and Slovakia in the group stages.
