PART of a Hampshire motorway was tonight blocked after a car caught fire on a busy slip road.
The vehicle was ablaze on the M27 westbound exit slip road at Junction Nine – blocking two lanes.
Fire crews were called to tackle flames engulfing the bonnet of a light blue sports car.
It is not known whether anyone was injured and police are on the scene directing traffic.
One motorist driving past on the eastbound carriageway said: “There is a light blue sports car on fire and its front and whole bonnet is burnt out.
"There is one fire engine there, police also there, long queues of traffic and people getting out of their cars to have a look.”
A crew from Cosham fire station were called to the scene at 6.11pm.
A spokeswoman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said the vehicle had been “well alight” but said there are no reports of any injuries at this stage.
The sliproad has since been reopened.
