WORK by The Pastel Society, a group of coveted artists who rarely exhibit outside London, will be the final exhibition at St Barbe Museum & Art Gallery in Lymington before it closes for a £2.3 million refurbishment.
The exhibition, which runs from July 30 to September 10, will demonstrate the highest level of technical ability and a diverse range of styles and subjects that embraces both the traditional and contemporary.
The Pastel Society was created in 1898 with George Frederick Watts, George Clausen and William Holman Hunt among its founding members. Today the Society continues to flourish presenting the best in contemporary pastel, combining traditional skills with creative originality.
Pastel is a medium which has long appealed to artists because it combines the immediacy of drawing with the application of colour.
