A PUBLIC meeting is being held tomorrow over the building of a controversial distribution centre in Southampton.
The meeting will discuss the construction of the South Central distribution centre in Test Lane, Redbridge, which is due to begin this summer.
An online pamphlet released earlier this year from Evander Properties, the complex’s developer, said the size of the three units that will occupy the site and will take up 205,935sq ft.
It added that work will begin this summer with units available for occupation by 2017.
But local residents have fiercely protested the site and vowed to keep campaigning to limit its impact.
Speaking earlier this year, Eugene McManus, head of the Redbridge Residents’ Association, said: “We have objected to this at every stage possible.
“We campaigned tirelessly to try and prevent the development from proceeding but we have lost that fight. We will continue to mitigate the impact that the development will have on Redbridge village.”
Now Independent councillor Andrew Pope and campaigner Denise Wyatt, who have both opposed the building at the site, are calling on residents to attend the meeting to discuss the future of the Test Lane development.
Ms Wyatt told the Daily Echo earlier this year: “Redbridge Independents will continue to fight with Redbridge residents against this development.
“We will be monitoring the build every step of the way. And if they step out of line, we will inform and support Redbridge residents to the maximum extent possible, including a judicial review if residents wish.”
The meeting takes place tomorrow on, starting at 7pm at the Ship Inn in Old Redbridge Road, Southampton.
A message posted online with the invitation to the meeting says: “It isn’t over yet! We continue to fight against this development.”
