A Hampshire primary school received a special guest as part of a Premier League programme.
Saints winger Nathan Redmond visited Redbridge Primary School this morning as part of Primary Stars, a Premier League programme that inspires children to learn and be active.
The Saints attacker went back to school, helping out in lessons and donating footballs and other equipment to the school.
As part of the scheme, the England international visited classrooms and was welcomed into a school assembly as the programme uses the appeal of the Premier League to inspire children.
Nathan Redmond said: “Everything in sport, you need the foundation of education, and that’s why this is so important. It’s brilliant to be able to give back to the children and have a Premier League team so close to the school and community.”
The winger also saw the school alter its name slightly, as the 23-year-old was welcomed into The Nathan Redmond School.
He said: “It was quite flattering to have the whole school named after me, I didn’t expect it!”
Head teacher Donna Clarke said: “It’s wonderful to have someone of Nathan Redmond’s stature here, a Southampton player and England international to inspire these children.
“It teaches them the value of hard work and Primary Stars send Ed Kilby from the club down every week to help out in class and build a relationship with the pupils.”
