Southampton from the sky
A MYSTERIOUS smell has been reported to police across the Solent.
The stench, the cause of which isn't known, has been sniffed as far away as the Isle of Wight, and is also hitting Portsmouth, Gosport, Fareham and Netley.
Police have appealed for the public's help in getting to the root of the problem.
A statement from Hampshire Constabulary said: "We continue to work alongside our colleagues from our partner agencies to ascertain the cause of the smell.
"The smell seems to have disappeared from most areas and we have not received any further reports.
"However, if you do notice the smell has returned, please report it to Southern Gas on 0800 111 999."
