A CAR has been destroyed after catching fire on a busy motorway.

Flames ripped through the vehicle on the eastbound M27 at junction nine earlier this afternoon.

The incident saw long queues building on the motorway but all lanes have since reopened.

Fire crews from Hightown attended the scene and extinguished the blaze.

No-one was trapped inside the vehicle.

The cause is yet to be determined.
