A second heatwave is expected to hit the UK this Thursday with the Met Office issuing an amber weather warning for parts of England and Wales, including Southampton.

This warning begins on Thursday, August 11 at midnight and ends on Sunday, August 14 at 11.59pm.

Although temperatures are expected to reach around 30C in Southampton, the hot spell could be due to end with rain and thunderstorms.

The Met Office’s UK long range weather forecast suggests what we can expect between Monday, August 15 to Wednesday, August 24.

Up to now, the Met Office has not confirmed an exact date or time for the thunderstorms.

The forecast says: “This period will see the breakdown of the hot, sunny and dry weather of recent days, with conditions becoming more unsettled across the UK.

“Showers will spread from the west and south next week, sometimes heavy and thundery, though drier periods with sunny spells are still likely between them. At the same time, temperatures will gradually decrease to closer to normal for August.

“Later in the period, the more changeable weather will prevail with a risk of heavy showers or thunderstorms continuing, but clear and dry spells in between too. Returning to warm or very warm towards the end of the period for much of England and Wales, perhaps becoming locally hot in parts of the south and southeast.”
