Nina Bird, from Barton Peveril Sixth Form College in Eastleigh, got one A* in Biology and two As in History and Maths.

She has been offered a place to study biology at the University of Oxford.

Speaking after opening her results, the 18-year-old said: “My mum went to Oxford so it has always been my ambition to do the same and now that’s becoming reality it’s a great feeling.”

She described the feeling of leaving the exam season behind her as "a massive relief".

"I was very anxious about it, there have been many sleepless nights because of this but now the hard effort has paid off."

Her friend Jessica Hibbert will also be going to Oxford after getting two As in Law and Psychology and a B in History.

She will be studying law.

She said: "It’s a relief to know the wait is over and the build-up of exams has paid off.

"Some people say that these things aren’t a big deal, but they are when you go through that stress."

Other students from Barton Peveril have also been celebrating their A Level results.

Charlie Bryant was over the moon after getting three A*s in Maths, Further Maths and Physics.

He said: "I’m just delighted really, relieved that the exams are over and the anxiety of whether I made it or not.

"It was nice to have the summer off and I am very pleased that the hard work paid off."

The 18-year-old has secured a place at the University of Warwick to study maths and physics, and said he is "looking forward to the next step".

Mack Sung made his grandparents, who are visiting from Hong Kong, very proud after getting three A*s in Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths and securing a place to study chemistry at Imperial College London.

He said he was "proud" to have made his grandparents "very happy" as he is their first grandson to go to university.

This year's "remarkable" A Level and Vocational results saw the college in Chestnut Avenue achieve an overall 99 per cent A Level and 100 per cent Vocational pass rate.

Headmaster Rob Temple congratulated his students, saying the results are a "testament to their hard work and positive attitude".
