Police have launched an attempted murder investigation after a woman and two children 'entered the water' near Cobden Bridge.
The force was called at 3.38pm following reports that a woman had entered the River Itchen near the bridge with two young children.
Emergency services attended the scene and all three people were recovered and received treatment.

A 31-year-old woman from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
Cobden Bridge was temporarily closed but has since been reopened.
There will be extra police patrols in the area.
A force spokesperson said: "This was an isolated incident and there are no wider threats to the community."
The Echo asked police if they could confirm the relationship between the woman and the two children who entered the water and the gender and age of the children.
In response, the spokesperson said: "We’re not disclosing any further details at this stage."
