Expect a spectacular celebration of cinema as Southampton Film Week returns for its 16th outing this weekend.
The event, which runs from Friday (November 10) to Sunday November 19, promises screenings, workshops, quizzes, talks, and masterclasses, sprinkled with timeless classics and a few surprises!
It launches with a showcase of the region's rich pool of filmmaking talent at MAST Mayflower Studios.
Scrapper, showing at Solent University Cinema on Saturday, is part of a bold new wave of British cinema.
Schools and colleges, as part of the Into Film Festival, are treated to The Super Mario Brothers and Polite Society.
System Update focuses on the climate emergency on Monday while one of the most anticipated events of the festival SFW: Shorts Screening and Awards Ceremony will light up the cultural quarter.
Tuesday sees the return of videoclub - Selected 13, a collection of diverse, surprising and provocative new films by early career artists.
If the golden era of the 1920s is more your style The Mask of Zorro screens at the Turner Sims with live musical accompaniment on Tuesday, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame with live Compton Organ accompaniment is on Thursday at the O2 Guildhall.
Enjoy double Doctor Who on Wednesday with Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. and The Delian Mode.
Women in Focus is a screening of archive films from female filmmakers whose work has, until now, been unacknowledged.
On Resistance Street, an examination of the role music plays in the fight against fascism and racism from Southampton filmmaker Richard David, has its regional premiere on Friday November 17.
Documentary Is There Anybody Out There? sees filmmaker Ella Glendining explore disability in an ableist society.
The event ends with the now legendary Southampton Film Week Quiz at Mettricks Guildhall.
Susan Beckett, City Eye and Southampton Film Week CEO, said: “We always try to bring audiences films and events that they might not have considered before. It’s so easy to sit at home and only engage with what the streaming platforms tell us to watch, but SFW will find must-see films that are not necessarily available this way or that really deserve to be seen on the big screen and with fellow movie-goers – there's nothing like that experience!"
