Aspiring chefs from a Hampshire secondary school visited the Italian eatery named Southampton's Best Restaurant as part of their learning.

Figurati, in Ocean Village, welcomed Year 10 Food Preparation and Nutrition GCSE pupils from Crestwood Community School in Eastleigh.

The food lovers were immersed in the world of good quality dining and gained insights into the culinary skills that saw Figurati named the best restaurant in Southampton at the British Restaurant Awards following a bumper first year in business.

Figurati’s Head Chef Nick O’Halloran said his team had an interesting afternoon and hoped they inspired the students for their upcoming exams.

He added: “It was really great to be able to educate pupils about good quality dining, food preparation, sourcing premium ingredients and everything that goes into crafting delicious meals.

“All of the students were really enthusiastic about the trip, and it was rewarding to inspire the younger generation for their GCSEs.”

The pupils indulged in a delicious three-course meal from Figurati, which included a trio of arancini, Chicken Milanese, and a mouth-watering dark chocolate mousse before being sent on their way with plenty of food for thought.

A pupil from Crestwood Community School said: “It was a really nice experience, and the food was plated attractively. I’ve learnt a lot from this trip.

"The whole experience was really enjoyable and will help me with my GCSE, especially the presentation.”

Earlier in the year, staff at the restaurant welcomed another Southampton secondary school, Cantell School, to help the students develop their table etiquette, confidence around formal dining, and other fundamental aspects of adulthood.

Figurati has broadened its school trip initiative and now offers bespoke visits for pupils to learn a variety of skills beyond the traditional classroom environment.

Founded by Chris Schutrups and Richard Gilbert along with their wives Nicola and Sophie in July 2022, the restaurant was honoured by the country's top culinary award-giving body for their outstanding contribution to UK hospitality back in September.
