AN inquest has opened into the death of a man who passed away following a hospital procedure.

Roy Oliphant, of Torridge Gardens, Southampton, died at Southampton General Hospital on February 3.

The 61-year-old had a history of left lung cancer and had been admitted for an elective lobectomy.

However, following his operation, Mr Oliphant's condition worsened, and he died.

Cause of death has been given as multiple organ failure, endocarditis, and pneumonia.

The inquest was opened and adjoined at Winchester Coroners' Court on Tuesday, February 13 by area coroner Jason Pegg.

The full inquest will be heard on February 6 next year.
