A popular independent coffee shop will reopen after a three-month refurb – with exciting changes.
Hailed as ‘Southampton’s independent’ Mettricks has taken its well-loved coffee experience one step further.
The Portswood branch will reopen and boast an in-house brewery and coffee roaster.
Named Ascapart, it will be ‘the UK’s first’ combined craft brewery and coffee roastery, according to founder Spencer Bowman.
Ascapart is led by industry pioneers Jimmy Hatherley as Head of Beer and Wilson Law Wai Shing as Head of Coffee.
The yellow doors of Mettricks will swing open again on March 18.
Speaking on the opening, Spencer said: “Speciality coffee and craft beer have gone hand in hand at Mettricks since 2013; it feels like a dream come true to share this exciting moment in time with Jimmy and Wilson as we bring Ascapart to life.
“We can’t wait to welcome everyone into Portswood to experience it.”

The coffee shop will also extend its opening hours until 11pm and offer a new food menu focused on brunch for daytimes and sourdough pizzas for evenings.
Alongside a 1,000 litre brewery, the revitalised venue will also offer Southampton’s first Mod Bar espresso machine and 12 craft beers on tap - including five Ascapart beers.
Ascapart beer and coffee will be available at all Mettricks venues, with locations in Portswood, Guildhall Square, Woolston Waterfront and West Quay.
All Mettricks cafe-bars will be opening in the evenings with new craft beer and sourdough pizza menus.
