A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a crash near Northam Bridge in Southampton.

At around 2am on Sunday, police were called to Bitterne Road West due to a collision between two cars.

Upon arrival, police arrested a 28-year-old man from Winchester on suspicion of committing a number of offences, including being over the legal limit for alcohol.

The 28-year-old was also arrested for driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence and taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent.

Police confirmed that the driver remains in police custody.
