Southampton City Council has warned drivers to plan extra time for their journey due to the high volume of cruise passengers in Southampton today.

Three cruise ships are in the port today, Cunard's new ship the Queen Anne along with the Aidanova and the Borealis.

This means that there will be an increased number of motorists and foot traffic around the waterfront area of the city.

Through its travel Twitter page, the council has also warned drivers to expect some roads and areas to be flooded after heavy showers and thunder in the early hours of the morning.

This comes after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for thunder storms in Southampton yesterday which lasted until 8am today.

The council has said motorist in Southampton should allow extra time for their journeys.
