A woman has been rescued from the water off Meon Shore after taking a ‘vast quantity of medication’ on Monday.

Officers in Fareham were dispatched to a concern for welfare at around 7pm on Monday, April 29.

Taking to Facebook to explain the incident, an officer said: “The whole team turned out to assist with a high-risk female who had taken a vast quantity of medication and her location was unknown."

The officer said the woman was sighted on Meon Shore by police and a short time later, police saw “what appeared to be a person in the water.”

They added: “With the help of our colleagues on the Marine Unit and the Coastguard, the female was lifted from the water and is now with South Central Ambulance Service receiving support.”

A spokesperson for the force added: “The concern for welfare was reported about 7pm on 29 April.

“The woman was passed into the care of the ambulance service after the coastguard removed her from the water at Meon Shore beach.”

The coastguard was also involved in the rescue efforts and a spokesperson added: “HM Coastguard assisted Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary with an incident at Meon Shore, Fareham, on the evening of April 29.”
