Emergency services have tackled a car fire in Southampton.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning (June 8) after a vehicle had caught fire on Harbour Parade in Southampton city centre.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident, with a spokesperson telling the Echo: “At approximately 11am this morning, a crew from St Mary’s Fire Station responded to a vehicle fire in the car park at Harbour Parade, Southampton.

“Equipped with breathing apparatus, the firefighters promptly tackled the blaze, using two hose reels.

“By 11.30am, the fire was under control, and the scene was secured.”

They added: “The incident was then handed over to Hampshire Constabulary for further investigation and to determine the cause of the fire.”

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police told the Echo that officers did attend the scene but that it wasn’t a police matter.

David Bally, 62, was in Westquay at the time of the incident.

He said: “I was inside the shopping centre and could smell the smoke from there.

“By the time I saw it the fire had been extinguished and traffic was being diverted around Mama’s and Papa’s.

“It looked like nobody was seriously injured which is the most important thing because the damage to the car was extensive.”
