Southampton libraries are reopening as warm spaces to help the community this winter.
From Monday, November 25, all libraries in the city have been part of a nationwide Warm Welcome initiative, providing warm, safe spaces with over 250 activities for all age groups.
The activities include arts and crafts, reading and games clubs, with free hot drinks and snacks available. There is no need to book in advance.
Following changes to the Winter Fuel Payment scheme, libraries will also offer advice on pension credits.
The government recently announced that the payment will only be made to pensioners receiving certain benefits.
To support those affected, libraries will provide 45-minute, pre-bookable sessions to check eligibility and help with the online application process.
The deadline for applications is Saturday, December 21.
These appointments can be booked online at southampton.gov.uk/libraries, in person at your local library, or by calling 023 8083 3007.
Councillor Lorna Fielker, leader of Southampton City Council said: "The Warm Welcome initiative has proven to help people in Southampton and beyond, year after year.
"The colder months can feel dark, lonely and unsettling for some, but our fantastic Libraries teams and volunteers work hard to ensure that our libraries are warm, safe spaces with plenty to do. Our friendly staff can also help people navigate support available during the winter period."
The Warm Welcome initiative is supported by library teams across the city and Friends of Library groups.
All of Southampton’s libraries are registered as warm spaces as part of the wider, nationwide initiative by providing warm, safe spaces and activities in local communities.
More information about the Warm Welcome initiative can be found online or by visiting your local library.
