The hunt for a lollipop crossing person is still underway at a school where parents have concerns over young pupils' safety.

Hampshire County Council is looking for a school crossing patrol volunteer at Fryern School in Oakmount Road, Chandler's Ford.

As reported, more than 300 parents have signed a petition asking for a zebra crossing.

Now a county council spokesperson has said: "We are not aware of any reported traffic incidents on Oakmount Road over the last year, nor are we currently aware of any concerns being raised to us directly.”

They added:  “We are currently advertising for a School Crossing Patrol at Oakmount Road, outside Fryern School.

"However, despite the ongoing promotion of the vacancy, the role has been open since September last year.

“This is a rewarding job which will suit someone who is keen to make a difference in their local community, offering working hours that allow people to fit in other commitments across the rest of the day.

Parents said the road was an “accident waiting to happen”.

Leah Wilkie, who started the petition, found it “incredibly nerve-wracking” that children have to cross the street.
