A developer has planted a sacred tree at a new housing development to mark National Tree Week.
Pye Homes has planted a rowan sapling at the new Welborne Garden Village development near Fareham, Hampshire.
The tree was grown on the Blenheim Estate and has historical significance in Celtic mythology, symbolising courage, wisdom, and protection.
Roger File, director at Pye Homes, said: "This rowan sapling is hugely symbolic for us, as it marks our first housebuilding project outside Oxfordshire, in a groundbreaking partnership.
"We are delighted to have begun crafting these beautiful new homes, alongside the delivery of new green spaces and essential amenities."
Pye Homes is working on the first 600 of the planned 6,000 homes at Welborne.
More than half of the development will be green space, aiming to restore wildlife and natural habitats.
The first homes are expected to be completed in late summer 2025.
