TIGERS colonel in chief, the Queen of Denmark, met the troops when she paid a visit to the solders base in Paderborn, Germany.

It’s only the second time that Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II has visited the 1st Battalion, Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment and it was a chance for her to catch up with the troops who have been on the frontline in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Queen Margrethe laid a wreath in memory of soldiers who have lost their lives in recent years.

During the visit she also watched a training ground demonstration, where a simulated casualty was treated for severe injury.

Corporal Nathanael Wrigglesworth, 29, from Eastleigh, said: “I feel lucky that after all these years the Queen still has such a large interest in the PWRR and is prepared to take time out of her busy schedule and travel all the way to Germany and visit the battalion.”

While L-Cpl Daniel Turner, 22, from Fareham, a former pupil of Neville Lovett Community School, added: “Not only does it make me feel proud that such an important member of the Regimental family is visiting, it is also an excellent opportunity for the whole battalion to get together and put on a show.”
