THOUSANDS of women are this morning helping the fight against cancer by running around Southampton Common.
Up to 6,000 ladies are taking part in the annual Race for Life.
Organisers say 1,000 women will take part in this year’s first 10K event and more than 5,000 will come together for the 5K event.
The event has escaped the dismal weather which has seen several high profile events cancelled this weekend.
Rachel White, from Cancer Research UK, said the course is mostly on tarmac.
She said: “We are always amazed by the commitment of the ladies and we do find, whatever the weather, they come out in force and make the atmosphere as brilliant as possible.”
The big event raises vital cash for Cancer Research UK’s research into 200 types of cancer.
