Grant Criteria – Sport Relief Community Cash Grants
Definition
The Grant shall be used to support work where there is clear evidence of a sustained beneficial impact or people’s lives that are excluded or disadvantaged through low income, rural or social isolation, age, disabilities, race, sexuality or gender. Priority is to be given to small, locally based groups or organisations in areas of disadvantage that have a clear understanding of the needs of their community and are undertaking actions as a means of addressing these needs. Within this context, the Grant Criteria are:
1. Grants up to £1,000
1.1 Criteria
We believe that local people know what is needed in their community and are best placed to make any changes.
Having lots of activities happening in area brings vibrancy to a local community which can make it a better place to live.
We are also aware that many people are undertaking great work in their area but often struggle to get the support they need.
We therefore want to support community groups undertaking work that helps people of all ages feel more included in their community, builds their skills and increases their sense of achievement.
1.2 Who Can Apply?
Groups need to:
• Be working in a disadvantaged or deprived area within the local authority of Southampton.
• Be small local groups with an income of less that £50,000 (in the last year) run by local people
1.3 Examples of the type of activities we will fund
- Parent and Toddler Groups
- Dad and lads group
- Equipment and material for youth groups or older people’s groups
- Community festivals
- Cross generational work
- Befriending for older isolated people
- Lunch Clubs
- Running costs for self help groups

- Sporting or physical activity – e.g. weekly football training sessions for a local team or gentle exercise for the elderly
1.4 How much can we apply for? - the minimum grant award is £500 and the maximum is £1,000.
- Grants are restricted to one per group and therefore a group can not apply for more than one set of funding from this particular programme.
1.5 Exclusions
Grants will not be awarded to the following:
• to individuals;
• to statutory organisations, including PCT’s and schools.
• groups who is not constituted.
Grants will not be awarded for the following purposes:
• to fund trips abroad;
• to fund buses, mini buses or other community transport schemes (not including transport costs forming part of a project);
• to fund building costs, including access adaptations to buildings.
1.6 Deadline
The deadline for submission of applications is 5 March.
Successful applications will be notified by mid – April.
