AN EASTLEIGH man died from multiple injuries after being hit by two cars, a court heard.
Sagar Bhatti was fatally injured in Woodside Avenue, Boyatt Wood.
The 23-year-old had spent the night drinking in pubs in Eastleigh town centre in the hours leading up to his death on March 10, 2019.
Kieran Hobbs, 31, has been accused of manslaughter and stands trial at Salisbury Crown Court.
He denies the charge against him.
Giving evidence on Monday, Forensic Pathologist, Dr Deborah Cook, said that following a post-mortem examination no drugs were found in Bhatti’s system.
However, alcohol was present.
A toxicology report showed that he had 306mgs of alcohol in 100ml of blood.
The drink drive limit is just 85mgs meaning he would have been the equivalent of more than three times the drink driving limit.
Dr Cook said that someone with such a high reading would “appear very drunk”
She said that Bhatti suffered multiple injuries, however, there was no bruising to his brain.
Salisbury Crown Court was told that Bhatti suffered an injury to his left upper eye lid which showed bruising and swelling.
Dr Cook said that before the death there must have been a period of swelling.
Earlier in the trial, prosecution barrister, John Price QC, read a statement given by a woman who said she saw Mr Bhatti lying in the road.
She asked Hobbs what had happened and he replied: “I knocked him out”.
The court previously heard that Mr Bhatti had made no attempt to get out of the way of the approaching car.
The trial continues and is expected to last up to three weeks.
