FIRE investigators were today looking into the cause of a blaze that destroyed a caravan and damaged the roof of a bungalow on the Waterside last night.

A neighbour is believed to have alerted the emergency service about the inferno that originated in the vehicle parked in the driveway of a house in New Road, Blackfield, shortly before 11pm.

The vehicle was destroyed and the flames jumped on to the roof of the adjacent chalet bungalow and firefighters had to remove part of the roof to tackle the blaze.

Crews from Hardley, Beaulieu, Totton and Hythe were joined at the scene by the special equipment unit from St Mary's station in Southampton, who were at the scene for about 90 minutes.

Other crews left the scene after about three hours.

Nobody is believed to have injured.
