A HAMPSHIRE village has vowed to help the parents of a visiting sailor who collapsed and died after a race-hate gang attack.
At least two businesses in Fawley have started collections in memory of Gregory Fernandes, who was walking through the village a week ago when he was assaulted by 20 youths.
His parents, who live in a small fishing village in the Indian state of Goa, have been left destitute by his death.
Floriano Fernandes, 60, and his wife Angelina, 62, regarded him as the family's main breadwinner and depended on the money he regularly sent home.
Another seven teenagers have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The suspects, all aged between 13 and 17 and from the Fawley and Blackfield areas, were detained on suspicion of murder, grievous bodily harm and violent disorder.
Three teenagers arrested last weekend on suspicion of murder were subsequently released on bail, pending further inquiries.
