BY-ELECTION candidate Darren Procter is standing for the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition.
He is secretary of the Southampton Shipping branch of the Rail, Maritime and Transport workers union (RMT) and a member of the union's national executive committee.
Mr Procter last month was among demonstrating trade unionists who marched through Southampton protesting against Government imposed cuts.
He is calling for united resistance to all cuts and wants to defend jobs and services, save the NHS, renationalise the railways and build for a 24-hour general strike.
His candidacy has been welcomed by Tim Cutter, secretary of the Hampshire County Council branch of the public sector workers' union, UNISON, which includes the Eastleigh constituency.
The RMT's Assistant General Secretary Steve Hedley has appealed for all trade unionists to get behind Mr Procter.
