Vegard Forren has ended a disastrous spell at Saints by returning to his former club, Molde.
The centre-back has re-signed for the Norwegian team, just six months after making a £3.5m move to St Mary’s.
Forren, 25, did not play a single minute of first-team football in his time with Saints.
Just a few weeks ago, the Norway international had insisted that he would not be leaving the club to rejoin his old side.
“I am very fond of Molde and hope they do well,” he said. “But right now it’s not an option for me.”
His agent, Jim Solbakken, had also said earlier this summer that Forren “absolutely” intended to stay with Saints and was “definitely” in the club’s plans.
However, behind the scenes it has been said that the defender has not lived up to expectations, and both sides have now cut ties with each other.
