The Kenyan midfielder was controversially booked just before the end of the first half as referee Kevin Friend adjudged he pulled back Sone Aluko, even though he protested his innocence.
Wanyama has been walking a tightrope for weeks but this was the last weekend he needed to avoid a yellow before the number of cards for a suspension rose to 15.
Wanyama will now miss the games away to Stoke and at home to Tottenham.
