EASTLEIGH can begin to breathe easily again after racking up back-to-back victories under the caretaker leadership of Richard Hill.

The Spitfires all but banished fears of being sucked into the National League relegation zone with a last-gasp 1-0 victory at Chester this afternoon.

It was their first away success since winning by an identical scoreline at Boreham Wood on New Year’s Eve – and again it was Scott Wilson who emerged as the hero.

Having gone on as a substitute midway through the second half, Wilson struck at the death, lashing the ball home from inside the six-yard box following a Sam Matthews corner.

Eastleigh had the better opportunities with Matt Tubbs bringing the best out of home 'keeper Alex Lynch, who turned his shot round the post just four minutes in.

But Chester had their moments and Graham Stack worked wonders to keep out Lucas Dawson’s deceptively dipping free-kick early in the second half.

The much-needed victory lifts Eastleigh into 12th spot, 11 points clear of fourth-to-bottom Woking.
