HAMBLE Club’s big FA Vase adventure is over.
The Sydenhams Wessex League’s sole survivors bowed out 2-0 in the fifth round at Windsor yesterday.
With a place in the quarter-finals up for grabs, the Monks let the big occasion get the better of them as goals by Kieran Knight and Jack Denton took Windsor through.
But one poor performance should not overshadow a brilliant Vase debut from the Hamble boys who, just four seasons ago, were playing in the Hampshire Premier League Division One.
“We’ve put ourselves on the map,” said manager Ben Kneller.
“This will give us the appetite to come back next year and hopefully we can have another go at it.”
Chichester City – managed by former Moneyfields duo Miles Rutherford and Graeme Gee – also bowed out, beaten 1-0 at 1874 Northwich.
But there was positive news for former Wessex League outfit Thatcham Town who saw off Bromsgrove Sporting 2-1 thanks to a brace from ex-Blackfield & Langley winger Ekow Elliott.
