SAINTS' club record signing Guido Carrillo has left St Mary's for Spanish outfit Leganes on a season-long loan.
Carrillo is now reunited with former Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino, who was appointed manager at the La Liga outfit in June.
The 27-year-old moved to Saints for around £19.2m in January but never found his feet, failing to score in seven Premier League appearances.
The striker was brought in by Pellegrino, who he'd previously worked with at Estudiantes in Argentina, in an attempt to find some firepower upfront as Saints faltered under the former Alaves boss.
However, Carrillo was unable to find form and Pellegrino was sacked in mid-March and replaced by Mark Hughes.
Carrillo started Hughes' first game in charge, the 2-0 FA Cup quarter-final win over Wigan Athletic, but soon fell out of favour.
He recorded just nine Premier League minutes under the Welshman, coming on as a late substitute in Saints' 3-0 defeat at West Ham at the end of March.
In the following seven league games, in which Saints sealed Premier League survival, Carrillo rarely appeared in the matchday squad, and never on the pitch, and has subsequently been deemed surplus to requirements.
He was left out of Saints’ pre-season trip to China, along with Sofiane Boufal, allowing the Argentine an opportunity to find a new club.
Pellegrino was keen to take Carrillo at new club Leganes and a deal has now been struck.
“Everyone at the club would like to wish Guido good luck for the season ahead,” Southampton wrote on their website.
